About us We trust in God’s Love
JARME is a Spirit-filled church family in South Portland, Maine, on a mission to ignite passion for the Kingdom of God — saving the lost, discipling believers, and sending them out to demonstrate the power of Jesus Christ.
Our beliefs Our statement of Faith
Everything we do is anchored in the Word of God. Here are the core truths that shape our faith, guide our church, and define how we live.
The Scriptures
We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God, composed of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, without error in its original manuscripts, and the final authority in matters of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
God the Father
We believe in God the Father, the Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, who is loving, holy, just, and the source of all things. (Genesis 1:1; John 1:1-3; 1 John 4:8)
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, rose bodily from the grave, ascended to heaven, and will return to judge the living and the dead. (John 1:1,14; Colossians 2:9; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit indwells, guides, teaches, and empowers believers, and convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. The Spirit bestows spiritual gifts to build up the body of Christ and continues to perform miracles and wonders today, as He did through the disciples of Jesus Christ two thousand years ago. (John 16:8-13; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11)
Salvation
We believe that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. All who repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ are declared righteous and receive eternal life. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-10; Titus 3:5)
The Church
We believe in the universal church, a spiritual body of which Christ is the head, composed of all who have been born again. The local church is a community of believers who gather for worship, teaching, fellowship, and to spread the Gospel. (Matthew 16:18; Acts 2:42-47; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14)
The Ordinances
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has given two ordinances to the church: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is the public declaration of faith in Jesus, symbolizing death to sin and new life in Him. The Lord’s Supper is a remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice and a proclamation of His return. (Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
Christian Living
We believe that Christians are called to live a holy life, empowered by the Holy Spirit, reflecting the character of Christ. Believers are to love and serve God, share the Gospel, and seek justice and mercy. (Romans 12:1-2; Galatians 5:22-23; Micah 6:8)
The Last Things
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, eternal life in heaven for believers, and eternal separation from God in hell for unbelievers. Christ will return to establish His kingdom fully and bring all things to completion. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Revelation 20:11-15; Matthew 25:31-46)
